Message from CEO
Tremendous potential in livestock sector of Pakistan has remained untapped since so many decades. We are ranked 19th in the world in meat production and 4th in milk production. It is pertinent to mention that the sector provides employment opportunities for millions of rural population. Its contribution towards national income is 11% whereas it makes 53.2% of the contribution of agriculture sector towards GDP. Pakistan is producing 2.2 million tons of meat which is inadequate for local consumers demand. Although our draught cattle is genetically inferior for meat yet it can boost meat production tremendously if we produce its hybrid breed through cross breeding with better exotic insemination.
You might be surprised to know that 2.5 millions live animals estimated worth of US$ 1.4 billion are crossing our borders annually. This undocumented drainage of livestock raw material could be a source of huge export earnings through value addition. This colossal loss of raw material is further exaggerated by slaughtering or death because of starvation of 6 to 7 million male calves during its infancy.
By the Grace of Allah, we successfully stepped ahead in the form of Lahore Meat Company. The initiative of establishing Lahore Meat Company by the Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab is a true reflection of his vision regarding the huge potential of livestock sector. He is taking very keen interest in the revival & development of integrated meat value chain for meeting the domestic consumers.
Millions of animals are slaughtered annually in existing slaughterhouses for meat only; but major portion of the by-products is going into waste due to lack of modern meat & by-products processing. Blood, Bones and fats are yet to be utilized in our local & export industry.
"Only sound of the animal will remain untapped in processing plant"
This project is not only a milestone for modernizing meat processing facilities in Pakistan but also it will promote compliance with Halal meat practices. Halal certified products are recognized as trademark of healthy & hygienic food, it is usually said,
"Halal is not a Mystical Religious Ritual…… but the Science of well-bein".
The size of global Halal products market including all Halal food, non-food products has reached to US$ 2.3 trillion per annum, out of which Global Halal Meat Market is worth US$ 2,951.1 million and it is growing at rapid pace. The non-food components like Pharmaceutical goods, Personal Care & Cosmetics, and gelatin constitute 33% of the global Halal products market.
